Director of Learning: English

We are looking for a Director of Learning for English from April 2017, with responsibility for leading and managing the delivery of English.  You will have a proven track record across Key Stages 3 & 4, the ability to motivate and inspire staff and students alike, and an unwavering commitment to improving achievement for all.  A September start may be considered in negotiation with the successful candidate.

Since the academy opened, English results have improved year on year; last summer 67% of students left the academy with at least a C grade in English and this improvement is set to continue with an increasingly able profile of student lower down the school. With this in mind, the English team acknowledge that now is the time to invest heavily in the development of an exciting and challenging KS3 curriculum. This young and dynamic team, utterly invested in the belief that learning changes lives, is determined to see all of our Year 7  students leave us in 4 years’ time with top grades, and as great orators, captive writers and interested readers. By joining the English team at Ebbsfleet, you will be joining us on our journey to excellence. The intervention work is done; now it's time to make academics of our students.

General expectations:

  • to demonstrate high professional practice in all areas of work
  • to help progress the academy towards our vision, through a focus on raising the aspirations of students
  • to be an excellent role model for students, commanding respect and being a positive presence around the academy
  • to be efficient and effective, highly organised in all areas of work
  • to promote actively the academy’s ethos through actions and words
  • to adhere to the staff dress code
  • to participate in duties as directed

Leadership expectations:

  • to pursue and deliver academy strategies and agreed actions in a positive and consistent manner, and to enthusiastically contribute to whole academy discussions on policy
  • to be an excellent team leader, capable of building a successful team and getting the best out of colleagues
  • to think creatively about the academy, to be prepared to take risks and to innovate
  • to be an excellent communicator with a high degree of emotional intelligence
  • to have responsibility for the performance and line management of staff
  • to join the Leadership Team in the day-to-day running and supervision of the academy
  • to implement and support whole academy policies and ensure all deadlines are met
  • to liaise with and report to the Governing Body where appropriate
