School Nurse required for an immediate start. 

Grade: VIAT 7

Hours of work: 37 hours per week, term-time only – 190 days

Reporting to: Inclusion Manager

Purpose of job: 

  • To respond to all medical emergencies and first aid requirements.
  • Responsibility for all medication kept in school.
  • Administration of all necessary documentation.
  • Delivery of Health Care courses
  • Mentoring
  • Development and monitoring of healthcare plans 

Student Welfare

1) Attend to students who have been referred by a member of staff, or have self- referred at break or lunchtime. 2) Respond to all medical alerts. 3) Where necessary, call ambulance and arrange for student to be accompanied to hospital if emergency contacts are unavailable. 4) Risk assessment of injured students returning to school using crutches etc. 5) Liaise with parents regarding medication, ongoing medical needs or medical welfare issues and formulate health plans as needed. 6) Communicate with staff regarding medical issues and student welfare issues. 7) Liaise with Community School Nurses re: individual students, policies, BCG vaccinations, Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio vaccinations. 8) Liaise with other specialist nurses in support of students with medical needs. 9) Refer students with regard to Child Protection issues to the school’s Child Protection Officer or Headteacher. 10) Health promotion in terms of dietary advice and healthy lifestyles. 11) Liaise with the Healthy Schools Co-ordinator regarding issues appropriate to school. 12) Dispense medication to students who are on long term and short-term treatment. Send for students if the time for medication has passed. 13) Convey concerns regarding students to Student Support Managers, particularly with regard to bullying issues, behaviour and emotional needs. 14) Follow up student attendance concerns from Student Support Managers and Attendance Officer. 15) Attend home visits with Inclusion Manager regarding medical or emotional issues. 

Administration

1) Collect medical information for Year 6 and new students.2) Complete relevant data input via SIMs. 3) Administration of all accident reporting. 4) Provide and maintain statistical reports regarding student welfare. 5) Order first aid stock and replenish supplies to first aid boxes throughout the school site. 6) Maintain up-to-date qualified first aider records and information. 

General

1) To attend to emergency medical needs of staff. 2) Arrange regular training for school first aiders. 3) Contribute to procedures for monitoring Health and Safety if requested. 4) Be involved in implementing the Healthy Schools Standard. 5) Participate in the performance management process.
