Are you passionate and enthusiastic about teaching in the Early Years?

An exciting opportunity has arisen at St John’s CE Primary School for an experienced Early Years Teacher to join our friendly and committed nursery team. With high expectations of all learners, you will have recent experience of teaching in a nursery setting and have a thorough understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. We are looking for someone who has a commitment to child-centred creative learning and who fully understands the importance of learning through play.

We can offer you pupils who are keen and ready to learn, a vibrant community in the heart of Canterbury, excellent facilities including a self-contained Early Years block and a school where staff voice is highly valued. Our Early Years provision has recently been graded as good by Ofsted so if you would like to join us on our journey to becoming outstanding we would like to hear from you.

We warmly welcome visits to the school in order for you to gain a true insight in to life at St John’s. Arrangements for visits can be made through the school office (01227 462360). We look forward to meeting you!

This is a full-time post commencing in September 2016, however we would consider part-time for the right candidate.

Information about the school

In 2024, Ofsted graded St John's as a good school in all areas.

The school, based in the heart of Canterbury, is a larger than average primary school, with two classes in each of Years 1 to 6. The school has provision for Early Years Foundation Stage children, with a nursery and two reception classes. In addition to our teaching team, we have a supportive pastoral team including a Head of Inclusion and Welfare, Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Personal Development, SENDCo, EAL Specialist and a FLO. The school is a Church of England voluntary controlled school.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and the school reserves the right to carry out online checks on shortlisted candidates as per KCSIE guidelines. Our Child Protection Policy can be found in the Policies section of our website: https://www.stjohns-canterbury.kent.sch.uk/page/?title=Policies&pid=30.
