Teaching Assistant – Early Years/Year 1

 

Speldhurst Church of England Primary School is looking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who has the ability to inspire, motivate and support our youngest pupils.

The role will be within a mixed Foundation/Year 1 class. We are looking for someone with proven ability who enjoys working with this age group. The post is term time only 30 hours per week.

You will have high expectations for both achievement and behaviour, excellent communication skills and ability to work flexibly, supporting the class teacher.

Speldhurst is an Outstanding school with very little staff turnover and this is a rare opportunity to join our happy and motivated team. The school has a strong Christian ethos and is at the heart of the Speldhurst community.

The ideal candidate will be a well organised practitioner who is able to use their own initiative but also be able to work as part of a team. You will be flexible in your approach, completely reliable and always enthusiastic and positive.

Having a working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage would be a great advantage as well as previous experience in an Early Years or KS1 setting. Empathy and an ability to establish good working relationships with staff, parents and pupils are essential.

Core Responsibilities will include:

Undertaking a Key Person role (preparing, planning, assessing and reporting for a designated group of children)

Undertaking observations of the children

Setting out and clearing activities during and after sessions

Developing children's learning through play

Caring for children's personal hygiene

Taking responsibility for groups of pupils

Communicating with parents and carers

Qualifications:

Any of the following would be welcomed:

NVQ level 3 in Early Years and child care development

Degree in Early Childhood Studies

Teaching Qualification

First degree and an ambition to teach in the future

Experience as a KS1 Teaching Assistant
