Information about the school

Istead Rise Primary School is located in a semi-rural village on the outskirts of Gravesend, and currently has 210 pupils on roll.

At Istead Rise we teach an ambitious and bespoke curriculum which encourages children to develop as all round individuals; to learn skills which will support them throughout their future schooling and beyond.

There are four core values which are embedded within all aspects of school life. These are: independence, respect, perseverance and self-reflection. Istead Rise Primary School uses a Restorative Approach to manage behaviour, and deal with conflict. This approach focuses on developing positive relationships within the school and creates a safe, secure environment which enables children to develop both academically and socially.

In February 2024, we received a long awaited visit from Ofsted who judged the school to be good with many aspects being outstanding. The inspectors celebrated the pupils’ positive attitudes to learning; exemplary conduct and our successful curriculum which sparks pupils’ interests. We are proud of the exciting, memorable experiences that we offer children as part of our curriculum. Our extensive and picturesque grounds afford our children with many opportunities to take part in Forest Schools, swimming (our pool is onsite), a range of sports and a range of after school clubs.

Our school is part of Swale Academies Trust. Being a member of a highly successful Trust has enabled us to share expertise and good practice with other primary schools. Our Senior Leadership Team value all staff greatly and are committed to supporting teachers in achieving a healthy work/life balance. We are committed to reducing the overall workload of our teachers and have procedures in place, aimed at eliminating unnecessary tasks, related to planning, marking and data tracking.
