Information about the school

Bishop Chavasse Church of England Primary School is a two form entry school and a member of the Tenax Schools Trust. We opened in September 2017 and are located in South Tonbridge (postcode area TN11).

Our school provides high quality education for Year R to Year 6 - we reached capacity in September 2023.

Following our full, section 5 Ofsted inspection on 5th and 6th July 2022 we are very pleased that Bishop Chavasse Primary School has been judged as a 'Good' school, providing 'Outstanding' provision for our Early Years children. Our children’s aspirational journey through the school was noted with ‘high expectations reflected in all phases of the school’.

Pupils moved into our brand new, state of the art school building in April 2019. We have:

• Spacious classrooms along two easy to navigate corridors – one for EYFS and Key Stage 1, and one for Key Stage 2;

• Outdoor areas including a designated play and sports areas for EYFS, KS1 and KS2: sports field, trim trails, climbing equipment, outdoor classroom, prayer gardens and a new Forest School area;

• A bright, spacious and well stocked library;

• Quiet learning spaces outside the classrooms for personalised teaching;

• A dedicated room for music lessons;

• A room for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM);

• A fully equipped sensory room;

• Play therapist with a dedicated play therapy space;

• Daily Collective Worship where the school comes together to worship and reflect;

• On site kitchen facilities providing a choice of healthy, nutritious lunches every day;

• A variety of after school Enrichment clubs ranging from pottery and gardening to dodgeball and pop lacrosse as well as daily breakfast club.

All pupils, regardless of background, are offered a full and enriching curriculum from the start which enables them to master the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their full educational and personal potential. It is our passion to develop the whole child in a safe, inclusive, Christian environment.

Our Church of England primary school is at the heart of our local community, where staff, parents and children are flourishing through working, learning and playing together. As a Church of England school, Bishop Chavasse is linked with two local churches: St Stephen’s Church and St Peter and St Paul’s and we work closely with the Rochester Diocesan Board of Education to ensure our Christian ethos is theologically rooted and permeates every avenue of our school community, teaching and learning.

Tenax Schools Trust is a dynamic and enterprising organisation which is underpinned by a strong Christian character and ethos and is a formidable local driver of school improvement. Our Trust delivers high standards through a strong belief in an approach that insists that all children and young people can excel irrespective of their starting points. The Trust leads the Kent Teaching School Hub which delivers the Early Career Framework, as well as the NPQ suite of qualifications. Teach Kent and Sussex is our Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ initial teacher training centre, operating from Bennett Memorial Diocesan School. This wider work by the Trust provides a wealth of potential CPD opportunities.
