Full Time - 36 hours per week Monday to Friday

One in six young people have symptoms of a common mental health disorder yet only one in three end up accessing treatment from the NHS.

Do you want to be on the front line of supporting young people to ensure mental health is not a barrier to success?

A passionate, dynamic, evolving alternative provision service want to add the right SEMH mentor to its close knit, dedicated team.

Do you appreciate the impact mental health can have on a young person’s life? Do you understand the need to see beyond negative behaviour and support the young person to manage mental health challenges? Do you want to make sure young people don’t become mental health statistics but are seen as successful members of the community?

We need a SEMH mentor who is able to help our students take the first steps on a life changing journey. Do you have the ability to understand mental health triggers and find the right supportive strategy? Can you provide stability and security so young people can overcome mental health adversity?

The ideal candidate will:

  • know behaviour is a symptom and needs to be unpicked and understood.
  • have an awareness of SEMH needs and value the power of education to support these.
  • have an awareness on the impact that mental health can have on a young person and the barriers it can create.
  • be able to listen and guide to find each individual student’s strength and show them that they are the solution.
  • believe that our students can achieve ANYTHING they want and that we have a responsibility to support them.
  • be proactive, we are not here to fire-fight!
  • know that as a team, we all play a vital role in giving our students opportunities, experiences and, most of all, success!
  • never give up and strive to find positive steps forward, no matter how many barriers a student puts in place.
  • have a creative and flexible approach to working with young people.
  • have a desire to support the well-being, resilience and self-belief of our students.
  • want to grow and develop in this new role.

NWKAPS has been on a considerable and fast-paced journey Ofsted inspection, making exciting and positive strides forward which were recognised it our December 2019. We have an amazing team who are focused on providing the best outcomes for our students, promoting positive behaviour for learning and creating a high quality teaching environment.

Background to Alternative Learning Trust

The Alternative Learning Trust became a multi-academy trust (MAT company number 11788031) in June 2019. There are now three schools within the Trust, The Limes College, North West Kent Alternative Provision Service (NWKAPS) and Will Adams Academy. The Department for Education would like Alternative Learning Trust to consider other alternative providers.

The Trust has been established to work with Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and alternative providers who support vulnerable students to access and engage with education. Many of our students have special educational needs and have been excluded from mainstream education.

As a Trust we have the following core set of values for our staff and the families we support:
