We have an exciting opportunity at Upton Junior School; we are looking for an Apprentice Caretaker to join our wonderful Premises team.  The right candidate will be a positive, self-motivated, and organised with good practical skills. There are lots of reasons to become part of our Premises Team – we are a fabulous, caring school community that ensures that our ‘One Childhood, One Chance’ philosophy is at the centre of everything that we do.  To work for us, more than anything else, you need to like children, to want the very best for them and to be prepared to put their needs first.  We want our children to have an amazing school environment – inside and out, and this is something that you need to help us achieve!  The workplace learning will take part alongside our Premises Team in conjunction with a specialist training provider.

Its all about making sure that we are safe and secure, with everything working correctly and efficiently as well as keeping the schools looking smart.  Duties will include general maintenance of the school premises, out of hours opening for lettings, ensuring the security of the school, regular health and safety checks and general janitorial duties. 

The successful candidate will take pride in ensuring the school is clean, tidy and a safe environment for our children and staff.  They will need to be competent at DIY tasks and be able to work both on their own, as part of a team, and under the guidance of others.

  • Ability to relate well to children, young people and adults
  • Motivated to succeed within the job
  • Willing to reflect on their own practice, learn, and apply that learning in the workplace
  • Willing to work as a member of a team and communicate effectively with a range of people
  • Willing to undergo a compulsory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for suitability for working with children and young people.

The apprenticeship will be for 30 hours per week, for 52 weeks per year, on a fixed term basis. The apprenticeship will end once the course has been completed.
