At Chartham Primary School, we want to make learning fun, challenging and relevant, taking advantage of our unique setting and engaging all children in a curriculum which builds on skills and experiences. 

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with pupils with special educational needs, to support their personalised learning and social development. It is essential that you are adaptable, flexible, and ready to respond to the needs of the child. 

We have an outstanding opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant, who puts the children at the heart of everything they do and understands the importance of educating the whole child within a creative and innovative school setting.  

Experience supporting children with additional needs (for example ASC) would be advantageous. Your numeracy and literacy will be of a high enough standard to support and extend children throughout the primary age range. You will be able to communicate effectively with children and adults, have a flexible attitude, a good sense of humour, and be friendly and approachable. Good time management and the ability to work on your own initiative are essential.  

 Responsibilities will include:   

  • The 1:1 support of a pupil across all areas of the curriculum  
  • Regular feedback and liaison with the class teacher and parents
  • Keeping records of progress
  • Working closely with other members of staff to give and receive support 
  • Preparing resources and some administrative work 
  • Lunch and playground duty 

We can offer you training, a friendly and supportive environment and an experienced mentor to welcome and guide you in the role. 

The postholder is required to work for 38 weeks per year. In addition, the postholder will receive a payment in respect of their pro rata entitlement to Annual Leave appropriate to their grade, Bank Holidays and the KCC concessionary day.

Information about the school

Chartham Primary is situated in a rural setting in the large village of Chartham. The school moved to two-form entry permanently in September 2020 and has a roll of approximately 375.

We have extensive playing fields, plenty of space for outdoor learning and multiple Forest School areas. We also have a school radio station.

We pride ourselves in providing an enriched curriculum for our pupils in a fully inclusive environment. Our staff team are committed to providing the best possible education for each child and working in partnership with parents. We are proud to hold the IQM award for Inclusion and had a very successful Ofsted inspection in October 2019.

Chartham Primary School and St Stephen's Infant School have shared Executive Leadership arrangements with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Finance Officer and HR Officer working across the two schools. Building on this relationship, we converted to a Multi-Academy Trust, Inspira, on the 1st April 2021. The successful candidate will be employed by Inspira Academy Trust on the terms and conditions set out here.
