Responsible To: The Headteacher – Newingate School   

We are seeking a Class Teacher (Autism Specialist) to join our team, who has the willingness and ability to contribute to quickly establishing the school as a local centre of excellence for learning and teaching for students with a diagnosis of Autism. 

We are looking for a colleague who is a great all-rounder: enthusiastic, innovative, committed, highly motivated and a positive role model. Those with prior experience or training in the Primary or SEND sectors will be well prepared for teaching in our school. We are committed to offering a full and broad curriculum across the school that enables excellent outcomes for our students.  If you have the experience and drive to lead on a specific curriculum area or aspect of provision, we will offer the opportunity and support to do so.

Job Summary 

To take responsibility for the planning, implementation, and assessment of a broad and balanced curriculum for an initial cohort of students with Special Educational Needs, a diagnosis of Autism and associated SEMH difficulties. To ensure that all students, irrespective of their varying learning abilities, make progress and achieve the best possible outcomes. 

Successful candidates will be:

  • A creative, knowledgeable, and reflective practitioner who has high expectations of learning and teaching for themselves and their team
  • Proficient in appropriate models of teaching and support for autistic children
  • Able to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff across the school
  • Able to design a high-quality curriculum, giving students the confidence to succeed
  • Able to engage and inspire students through engaging lessons and varied learning opportunities to reduce gaps in learning
  • Able to support our students to reach their full personal and academic potential

Newingate School is a specialist independent school for children with Autism and associated Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs. All students have an EHCP and are referred to the school by their local authority. The school is registered for 11-18 year olds and provides a personalised curriculum to meet each individuals needs via small class and sometimes 1:1 learning support.
