An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to appoint a committed, caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to our wonderful team at Martello Primary school. We are looking for a candidate who is dedicated, patient and hardworking, to help our children enjoy, learn and achieve success. The position will be primarily working with children who have Special Educational Needs, supporting and leading groups and individuals in core group learning activities and interventions. Ideally the successful candidate will be able to work 35 hours a week, term time plus INSET days. We are looking to appoint someone as soon as possible.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Shows optimism, positively and ambition for the school, its pupils and the Trust
  • Has experience supporting children with SEND in an educational capacity
  • Is a great team-player
  • Has a desire to make a real difference to the lives of pupils in an area of coastal disadvantage and fully embrace the diverse community
  • Has secure subject knowledge, including of phonics/ early reading
  • Is committed to their own continuing professional development so that the learning opportunities offered are grounded in knowledge of best practice and are evidence-informed

In return, we can offer:

  • Wonderful children with a desire to learn and achieve
  • A hardworking and committed staff team
  • A vibrant, diverse and inclusive school that makes for an inspiring place to work
  • The chance to make a real difference to the lives of children and their families, some of whom face significant challenges and disadvantage
  • Exceptional CPD opportunities
  • A well-equipped and resourced school (it was newly built less than 7 years ago)
  • Excellent collaborative links between the three Turner Schools primaries at all levels
  • A Trust that prioritises wellbeing for all, including staff
  • Private healthcare through Benenden

The successful candidate will work primarily as a TA supporting children with SEN, working closely with the class teacher and TA team to facilitate excellent learning opportunities for the children. Small group and individual support will also be an aspect of the role, including leading a daily reading group. At Martello we recognise the crucial importance of securing strong reading skills at an early age: experience of supporting children’s early reading and phonics development would be advantageous, though not essential as training will be provided. It would be helpful to have an idea of candidates’ areas of strengths and experience, so please include this on your application form. We welcome visits to the school and are confident that when you step into our school you will want to be a part of what we do! We are Martello; we are proud!

We reserve the right to close the advert early if a suitable candidate is found.

Fixed term to 31/08/2022

Information about the school

Martello Primary is a one-form entry school situated in the East Cliff area of Folkestone. It opened to all year groups almost seven years ago and within this time has established strong provision across the school. Being a small primary school means that we are able to maintain a ‘family’ feel to the school and really nurture our children’s needs, both academically and personally. Many children who come to our school are disadvantaged and face challenges which could present barriers to their learning and achievement without the exceptional care of a committed staff team. Links with the local community have brought many opportunities to pupils, including in the wonderful Locavore Community Garden and via our partnership with Books for Change. The staff team has stabilised over the last couple of years, and advantages of being part of a Multi-Academy Trust are now better capitalised upon for the benefit of pupils and staff. There are two other primaries in the Turner Trust; Morehall Primary and Folkestone Primary, both of which are geographically close by. Martello Primary is an exciting place to work, and somewhere you know you can make a positive difference to the lives of young people. Turner Schools is an aspirational MAT which offers excellent school-to-school collaboration and support.

Across Turner Schools we:

Speak and act with care: always show compassion and respect for children.

Act boldly: be ambitious for yourself and the children and young people we serve.

Learn from adversity: be evaluative, thoughtful and reflective.

Challenge convention: be curious, welcome difference and unfamiliar thinking.

Connect with others: support colleagues, parents and pupils to make a great team.

Use your voice: offer different views and ask questions.

Do what it takes: be relentless in pursuing the best for children.

Ask for support: be open and honest when plans go awry.

Don’t give up: be calm, resilient and measured when managing challenges.

Our schools include:

Folkestone Academy
