Initially a one year contract. 35 hours per week, term-time only, 8.30am to 4.30pm

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Home School Support Worker to join our caring, dedicated staff team.

The post holder will be based in school and will demonstrate a child-centered approach in providing support and guidance whilst creating effective working relationships between home, school and other relevant agencies.

The post holder will:
• have experience of working intensively to support families in order to promote the wellbeing and attainment of children
• have an excellent understanding of education safeguarding to be able to assist the Inclusion Manager and DSL by contributing to case conferences and the implementation of child protection plans
• support the Attendance Officer by working with families to improve punctuality and attendance across the school
• have a proven track record of planning, preparing and running high quality, outcome-focused parenting sessions and family work
• have the ability to organise themselves and manage a demanding caseload
• have excellent communication skills and IT competency
• have high expectations of themselves along with a commitment to whole school development and success

As the role will involve an element of working within the wider community, a clean driving license and access to a vehicle is essential.The following would be a distinct advantage:

• A therapeutic background (including an understanding of the benefit of therapeutic approaches)
• Experience of the positive handling/team teach approach
• A degree of flexibility within the working pattern to enable them to attend evening parents’ meetings    as and when required

St John’s is a four-form entry primary academy located in Gravesend, serving the Parish of St John the Evangelist and the local area. It is part of the Kent Catholic Schools Partnership (KCSP), a multi-academy trust established by the Archdiocese of Southwark for Catholic education across Kent which currently comprises of 26 academies (21 primary and 5 secondary).

St John’s is an inclusive academy. Its dedicated staff, helpers and governance committee members work hard to ensure that every student is supported and challenged to be their very best.
