The children in the Phoenix Centre for Autism are looking for a new TA. They need someone who is cheerful and resilient with a positive outlook.

The Phoenix Centre for Autism is a specialist resource provision for 22 primary aged children between Year Two and Year Six at Cage Green Primary School. Next year, there will be two classes with approximately 11 children per class. The centre provides an adapted National Curriculum offering to our children, taking into account their communication, social, physical and sensory needs.

You will be a class TA working with the class teacher to support learning within the classroom environment and working with targeted groups of children. You may also support children when they go into our mainstream classes. You will also support the children at lunchtime by providing games and activities to keep them engaged or supporting the children while they eat.

The successful applicant should:

Have an interest in working with children with additional needs
Have a good understanding of behaviour management and how this relates to managing a class of children with additional needs.
Have good mathematics and English
Be able to communicate well with children, parents and colleagues and enjoy working as part of a supportive and reflective team.
Be able to adapt activities towards children’s learning abilities
Be flexible and able to respond to children’s needs, thinking on your feet and remaining calm under pressure.
Be forward thinking and proactive
Previous experience as a teaching assistant in a primary school age group setting or of working with children with an autistic spectrum condition is desirable but not essential.
