 SENDCo and Assistant Headteacher (4 days per week, 0.8)

Due to the promotion of our current SENDCo to the specialist teaching service, we are looking for an ambitious, experienced SENDCo to further develop our inclusive practice, enabling every child to have the very best opportunities.  In addition, if appropriate, you will also be made Assistant Headteacher.  This role is for 4 days per week.

Bishops Down Primary and Nursery Staff are a strong, caring and committed team who place positive nuturing relationships at the centre of their practice.

We are searching for a SENDCo who will be the lead teacher for our specialist resource provision for children with physical disabilities and complex medical needs as well as coordinating support for all SEND children from Nursery to year 6. Experience is essential for this post as we will be launching a second SRP at Bishops Down for SCLN in September.   In recognition of the implrtance of this role at Bishops Down you will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team with some additional whole school responsibilies.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • hold a recognised SENDCo qualification (NASENCO)
  • have experience with children with physical disabilities
  • foster strong relationships with parents
  • have experience of leading a team of TAs
  • have a proven track record in improving outcomes for children with SEND
  • have experience of SRPs
  • be able to work alongside SLT with a shared vision of inclusion and challenge
  • have experience of the DSL role.
  • be willing to contribute to the strategic leadership for the development and management throughout the school
  • keep SLT regularly informed of SEND pupil progress, interventions and support
  • liaise and work with external agencies
  • will be the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children
  • will act as a role model for good practice and model strategies for others

Information about the school

Bishops Down Primary and Nursery School is an inclusive, non-denominational school working in partnership with the Tunbridge Wells Primary Schools Collaborative Trust. The school was built in 1967 and is situated on the western edge of Tunbridge Wells in a leafy and pleasant residential area.

The school site is beautiful, elevated and fringed with green playing fields and woods. A fragrant quiet garden, pond and wooden structures in the grounds offer opportunities for happy playtimes.

We have just under 230 pupils in the primary and nursery classes. We also have a designation for children with physical disabilities and complex medical needs who are all included in mainstream.

We run Wrap Around Care at the beginning of the day and after school for our school and nursery children and during the holidays we run a Holiday Club for all children in the community.
