That is why we are looking to appoint a passionate, motivated and well organised individual to support pupils for whom English is not their first language, to ensure that our pupils thrive within our school community and experience a sense of belonging, through teaching, care and support. In line with up-to-date research the successful candidate will use effective models of supporting in and out of class that allow students to be as independent as possible, while receiving the scaffolding they need to ensure that they can achieve. The role is varied and will involve:

  • Developing an international classroom as a hub for all pupils and teachers to work collaboratively to accelerate pupils ability to read, write and speak English
  • Develop an induction programme for new pupils to the school for whom English is an additional language
  • Share best practice with teachers including strategies to support individuals 
  • Develop and coordinate interventions to support pupils to access their age related curriculum
  • Working 1:1 with students and supporting small selected groups.
  • Work closely with parents, carers and the local community to develop our EAL provision and whole school initiatives
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of pupils who have EAL
