The successful candidate will be responsible for the organisation and delivery of high quality behaviour and educational support for vulnerable pupils and communication with their families. They will proactively contribute to the provision of learning for these pupils in collaboration with class teachers and the Behaviour Inclusion Lead. They will be part of the team that will support vulnerable students whilst communicating with families and supporting links between home and school.



Meet all the Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards, support identified pupils with emotional and behavioural needs through the planning and delivery of 1:1 or group programmes, or supporting in class during reintegration where appropriate.  The HLTA will support in the assessment of needs of identified students and be part of the team that offers support, advice and guidance with behaviour management issues as required through engaging with parents/carers.  The HLTA may be required to attend meetings with other stakeholders and liaise with school staff regarding the interventions and support in place for identified pupils.  The HLTA will need on occasion to complete referral paperwork, under the guidance of the Behaviour Inclusion Lead and SENCO to access support from other agencies and to signpost parents/carers to other sources of support.  The HLTA will be required to keep up to date records, reports and liaise with the Behaviour Inclusion Lead daily.

 

The HLTA will be required to work independently with whole classes of pupils (approximately 8/10) daily and will be supported in planning and preparation. 

 

Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom; Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs; Encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all pupils in activities;  They will also be required to support reintegration meetings for any pupil who has been excluded for a fixed term;

 

Have their own teaching role of small group and 1-2-1 sessions, they will also be expected to manage the behaviour of students when specialist staff are providing learning.  It is important that the HLTA is able to establish constructive relationships with both staff and pupils.



Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs; Assist in the preparation of lesson materials and planned activities, including one-to-one session to meet the needs of vulnerable pupils where agreed by the

Behaviour Inclusion Lead.  The HLTA will also be required to evaluate the strength of interventions and learning and make adjustments where needed.  They will also need to support in the development and monitoring of the curriculum

 

The HLTA will need to challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem; Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance.  They will need a professional knowledge and understanding of students with challenging behavioural needs and will need to promote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
