Newington Community Primary School is looking to appoint a Welfare Team Leader to join our motivated and committed staff team. This could be an exciting leadership opportunity for someone with a background in education, social care or similar to join our school and make a huge difference to our children and their families.

At the heart of the role will be leading and coordinating the work of our school welfare team, ensuring that all children are safe and thriving inside and out of school. The right person will have a relentless determination to ensure that all children get the very best out of their time at our school; that they feel safe, listened to and attend regularly. They will demonstrate good professional knowledge, be well organised, dynamic and approachable, acting as a positive role model for all children. The skill to be calm under pressure, build effective relationships with children and adults and have a skill set to navigate the unique challenges that safeguarding can bring, are essential.

Key Aspects of the Role:

  • Strategically manage the school’s safeguarding training needs to ensure that all school staff are fully equipped to fulfil their responsibilities
  • Oversee the school’s policies and procedures for all aspects of child protection and safeguarding
  • Oversee the work of the school’s Welfare Team to ensure the right support, at the right time for all of our families, including providing supervision.
  • Work closely with the DSL to manage the school’s referrals to outside agencies
  • Liaise effectively with the Local Authority and the Police, including representing the school at meetings, to ensure the safety of all children
  • Oversee the school’s work on attendance to ensure that all appropriate actions are taken to enable all children to attend school as regularly as possible
  • Work with Governors to report on the school’s work to safeguard all children.
  • This is a full time role contracted for term time and school holidays with 30 days plus Bank Holidays leave entitlement.

Experience of working to safeguard children and working within Kent thresholds are essential and the right candidate should also have experience of being a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Refresher training will be provided to ensure that all training is up to date with current requirements.
