The Federation of Bromstone Primary School and St Mildred’s Primary Infant School is recruiting Governors for our joint Governing Board. (Voluntary work)

Both schools are located in Broadstairs.

What does a Governor do?

Governors of St Mildred's & Bromstone, together with the Executive Headteacher, make important decisions on how the schools are run.  They ensure that every child achieves the best possible outcome during their time in the two schools. Governors act as a critical friend to the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School which means both supporting and challenging to ensure the best outcomes for the children. They make decisions on policy and strategy for the schools and are accountable to parents and carers as well as the wider community and Ofsted.

The Governing Board:

    • Sets strategic direction, objectives, targets and policies
    • Reviews and approves the school budget
    • Reviews progress against School Improvement Plans and targets
    • Supports and challenges school leadership

What skills are we looking for?

We are recruiting Governors with experience and skills in:

    • Dealing with colleagues at all levels;
    • Business Leadership;
    • The ability to challenge constructively and help find solutions;
    • An appreciation of the value of education.

Knowledge of health and safety at work would be particularly useful.

 You don’t need any special qualifications, all we ask for is:

    • A willingness to share and develop your existing experience and skills
    • Time to take on the commitment.

 What are the benefits of becoming a Governor?

    • Building relationships through a network of professional local people;
    • Being able to take skills back to the workplace: reading and interpreting data, understanding the curriculum and making sure resources are used effectively and efficiently are just a few of the areas involved;
    • Gaining an insight into how schools operate and identifying other ways that business can become more involved;
    • Professional development through a range of training courses;
    • Knowing that you are doing something very worthwhile for your community.

 What is the Time Commitment?

The full Governing Board meets 3 times per year and we have three committees that also meet 3 times a year.  These committees are Quality of Education, Leadership & Management and Health & Safety and Safeguarding.  The Leadership & Management committee has responsibility for oversight of the financial management of the school as well as the staffing structure and personnel issues. There is an expectation to have read documents sent in advance for the meeting.

As well as the meetings, the governors will visit the schools throughout the year to gather evidence of improvements which have been implemented, or to look at specific subjects or areas of school life.

To apply please email the Chair of Governors, Mrs Di Springett care of:
