Bridge and Patrixbourne CEP School Before and After-School Club (BASC) is a new exciting provision for primary school children. The ideal candidate will work as part of the Bridge staff with children aged 4-11 years. We are currently recruiting support workers.

The working hours are 3.00pm – 6.00pm, Monday to Friday during school term time.

Whilst we welcome applications from any candidates. This role would particularly suit someone studying for a childcare/education qualification in sixth-form or university.

Essential Requirements:  

  • Experienced in play work or childcare
  • Fun, passionate and enthusiastic for working with children
  • Knows how to create a fun and creative working environment for children
  • Able to interact well with both children and parents.
  • Excellent communication skills together with sufficient understanding and use of English to ensure the well-being of the children
  • Ability to work on own initiative

Desirable Requirements:

  • Has a valid Paediatric First Aid/Food Hygiene qualification, or is willing to undertake qualification
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working in a childcare setting

Responsibilities and Duties

Main duties include:

  • Preparing and delivering quality play opportunities within a safe and caring environment.
  • Providing comprehensive care for the children
  • Providing refreshments and ensuring that hygiene, health and safety standards are met.
  • Administering first aid when necessary.
  • Setting up the play space including moving furniture and play equipment.
  • Consulting with children and involving them in planning activities.
  • Providing support to other staff, including volunteers.
  • Developing and maintaining good communication with all members of the club, with schools, and especially with parents.
  • Undertaking appropriate and relevant training.
  • Monitoring and maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment.
  • Working within the framework of the club’s policies and procedures, and the Early Years Foundation Stage.
