This post is for 19.75 hours per week over three days (including 2 hour meetings on Thursdays after school), 39 weeks per year (Term time plus 5 days INSET). This is a new post and the successful candidate will work under the direction of the Deputy Head Teacher with responsibility for Health and Therapy.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate competency linked to the HSPC standards of proficiency, and hold a degree in speech and language therapy that's approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).  Previous experience in successfully working with children and young people with complex health needs through education, NHS or private health care providers would be advantageous.

Foreland Fields School is a long standing associate to The Balanced System for SLCN and currently holds accreditation as a ‘Centre of Excellence’.  All of our pupils have delayed expressive and receptive language needs.  The school delivers a range of curriculum pathways, which meet the varying needs of our pupils and students and as such the interventions and support strategies required are wide and varied, including 1:1 and small group interventions.  The school has a total communication approach, with all pupils having communication goals and access to sign, symbolised support, augmentative and alternative communication, all based on individual need.

The school is seeking a Speech and Language Therapist with a determination to make a difference for pupils and students with complex needs.  They will contribute to the schools universal, targeted and specialist speech and language interventions, with an ability to work collaboratively with the school SLCN Lead as well as NHS Therapists.  They will embrace the school’s curriculum and functional approach to the development of communication for pupils with complex needs.

The role requires high level administration skills and attention to detail, including use of email, word and excel in order to ensure planning and review is completed in an effective, secure and timely manner.  The successful candidate will work effectively alongside a wide range of professionals including School Leaders, SLCN Lead, School Administration team, Class Teachers, HLTAs and TAs as well as NHS Therapists.  They will also need to liaise effectively with parents and carers.  The candidate will need to possess excellent communication and personal organisation skills.

We are able to offer visits for prospective candidates. Please contact the Deputy Headteacher (jeremyedwards@foreland.kent.sch.uk) for further information, or to arrange a visit to the school.
