Advert

Due to increasing student numbers, Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School is seeking to appoint to our science faculty. Whilst preferencing a teacher of chemistry, we would also consider a biology specialist. The position is advertised as part-time and the hours are negotiable.

We welcome applications from talented individuals who will dedicate themselves to the implementation of the school’s vision and the development of the science department. This role would suit either an Early Career Teacher (ECT) or somebody already teaching but ambitious to develop their career further.

The successful candidate must be confident in teaching to A Level in their subject and an interest in the development of extra-curricular opportunities is essential; the ability to teach more than one science to GCSE would be highly desirable.

The sciences are at the heart of our curriculum and a central pillar of our research driven extra-curricular offer. Approximately 150 students are studying one of the three sciences at A Level, from a Sixth Form of over 350. At GCSE, most students study the three separate sciences, with a smaller number following the Trilogy route. Many students leave us to undertake science related courses at university, with a consistently high number progressing to Oxbridge, Russell Group and other top-20 universities. We have a strong reputation for students leaving to undertake medicine, dentistry and veterinary sciences, and specific support in place to help them fulfil these ambitions.

Having moved into a new building in 2021, the science department is comprised of nine labs and works alongside three experienced, full time, technicians. Based on a 14-acre site, including two acres of woodland that are home to the ‘Orchard Project', the school places the same importance on academic excellence as it does on mental wellbeing and the development of non-examined skills. All teachers of science are given the opportunity to develop and lead research opportunities for our students; previous and current projects have been/are supported by the likes of the Royal Society, major pharmaceutical companies and universities. These projects feed into the rich and varied offer delivered through the Langton Extended Curriculum, working to ensure that we help shape ambitious, confident, independent and creative students, ready to take their place in society.

If you have a passion for science that you want to share with motivated and committed students, we welcome your application.
