Petham Primary School is looking to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team!

Petham is a good school with a strong supportive community set in rural village, close to the city of Canterbury. We are very fortunate to be able to learn in such a beautiful setting, surrounded by sheep, trees and hills and we are only a stone's throw away from the local church with which we have strong links. Petham is a happy and friendly place, where children enjoy learning (and playing!) and can achieve great things.

We are looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated HLTA to join our talented and supportive team. The successful candidate will be a flexible, positive and enthusiastic person who loves working with children and has experience in covering classes, with the ability to contribute to our school's community and vision, helping children to achieve their potential.

The successful candidate must:

  • hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • meet Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards or hold an equivalent qualification
  • have experience of planning and leading teaching and learning activities
  • have GCSEs in English and maths A - C or equivalent

The successful candidate will lead intervention groups across the school with the possibility of covering teachers PPA time if required. The hours will be Monday to Friday 8:30 to 3:30. The role is Term Time Only (38 weeks per year), and temporary until 31.08.2023; however the post has the potential to be extended.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has recent experience in the role of a HLTA
  • has strong Literacy and Numeracy skills to enable you to have a positive impact on children’s progress
  • has high expectations and is passionate about encouraging the best from every pupil, enabling every child to fulfil their potential
  • is able to contribute to, and work as part of a team
  • has excellent communication skills and a flexible attitude
  • has effective time management and an ability to work on own initiative
  • has good IT skills

The role will require the successful candidate to:

  • work closely with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils
  • support children in achieving the learning objectives and aims in English, Maths and across all areas of the curriculum
  • feedback to the class teacher, keeping records of progress and behaviour

We can offer you:

  • positive, happy pupils with an excellent attitude to learning
  • a passionate and committed leadership team
  • opportunities for professional development and career progression
  • a great place to work with a fantastic team who like to have fun!

Information about the school

Petham Primary School is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, within the peaceful village of Petham, situated a few miles south of historic Canterbury. The school, which has approximately 110 pupils on roll, is organised into 4 mixed-age classes from Early Years to Y6. We have excellent facilities both indoors and outside and were awarded ‘Good’ at our last Ofsted inspection in July 2019. The school’s outdoor space and location lends itself to support the development of a curriculum which has outdoor learning at its heart and the potential for an enriched Forest School to be established. The school works closely with families and has strong links with the local community, has a thriving PTA and an experienced staff team. Children at Petham are motivated, happy and have a thirst for learning.

We are part of a newly merged Trust of 10 schools - Our Community Multi-Academy Trust (OCMAT). Being part of the Trust provides excellent opportunities for professional development, networking and sharing of best practice. OCMAT is also a member of the Kent MAT Alliance (KMA). The KMA is a group of 9 Multi-Academy Trusts with 38 primary schools across the county. We are a like-minded collective group who strongly believe we are better together; working collaboratively to improve the educational outcomes of all the children in our care. As part of this we have access to a wealth of CPD and networking events.

Our school and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. This post is subject to 2x references and an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service. We will also seek references before interview.
