The Director of Science is the lead professional for the quality of provision in Science at Aylesford School. The Director will be a member of the Extended Leadership Team ensuring continual improvement and high quality, engaging and fulfilling education for all students. The director will further develop an ethos of high expectations for staff and students and in Science to further improve student outcomes. The Director will have a whole school leadership responsibility – to be decided with the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work on the Extended Senior Leadership Team contributing to promoting a productive learning environment which is engaging and fulfilling for all students and staff reflecting the identity of Character Education in the school

• In conjunction with the Headteacher and SLT the Director of Science will work towards Aylesford School becoming outstanding.

• Establish with the Headteacher a culture that promotes excellence, quality and high expectations of all students and staff across the school and in the Science department.

• Provide professional leadership and management of Science

• Report to the Headteacher to demonstrate that Science provision and performance are impacting on whole school improvement.

• Ensure that Aylesford School is prepared for external scrutiny in terms of provision in Science to secure positive inspection outcomes.

• Whole school Leadership Responsibility will be decided with the successful candidates to accommodate strengths of candidate, leadership development and the needs of the school as per the School Development Plan

Teaching:

• Contribute to the quality of Education – Teaching and Learning as an extended leadership Team member by carrying out quality assurance tasks and supporting colleagues on their own teaching and learning development.

• Provide leadership and management for the quality of Science, ensuring all Science Teachers deliver consistently good and outstanding lessons

• Monitor the standards in Science, always striving for excellence from all teachers in the delivery high quality first wave teaching.

• Monitor and evaluate the standards of students’ achievement in Science using data from school and national benchmarks, student voice, book scrutiny

• Ensure CPD enables teachers to progress and has a positive impact on students learning and outcomes
