Maypole Primary School has a fantastic opportunity for a qualified teacher to execute the national curriculum's wellbeing programme for the whole of KS2.

With rates of mental ill-health increasing as children get older; early intervention is key to giving young people the best start in life, hence, primary schools have a vital role in supporting children's mental health.

The successful applicant will be empowering children through the education of wellbeing skills, encouraging opportunities to self-reflect, improving confidence, building a sense of belonging and a desire to perform better at school.

The objective of the wellbeing curriculum is to help children to:

  • Learn and explore the world
  • Feel, express and manage positive and negative emotions
  • Form and maintain good relationships with others
  • Cope with, and manage, change, sets backs and uncertainty
  • Develop and thrive

The successful candidate should ideally have experience in pastoral care relating to children. A professional mental health qualification is not neccessary, however, we are looking for the chosen teacher to be enthusiastic, adaptable, autonomous, compassionate and hardworking.

Candidates will need to value the teaching of well-being; be highly confidential with all matters, have a positive approach to working with children, commit to our safeguarding procedures, have a thirst for acquiring up-to-date mental health knowledge, have good organisational skills, be flexible and have excellent interpersonal skills.

The post is for 2.5 days a week over a 39 week period. Lesson plans are provided with learning objectives and success criteria. Each child is encouraged to write an evaluation and reflection after each subject matter is taught.

The necessary guidance and support will be given to the successful candidate on how to deliver the curriculum and they must be passionate about the content matter. Resources and up to date relevant literature will be supplied and support and mentoring will be in place for the first year.
