The Churchill School are currently seeking to appoint a highly driven and motivated SENCO to join our well-established team for two days per week. We are looking for a special practitioner who will help shape the future for our children by ensuring that all the needs of our pupils are met. 

This post is ideal for a SENCO who wishes to contribute to a school on an innovative and exciting journey and who believes all pupils, no matter their background, deserve the best opportunities that we can offer.  The SENCO at The Churchill School will need to have teaching experience to support class teachers to include and plan for a wide range of additional needs.

Candidate requirements:

  • The National Award for SEN Co-ordination.
  • Experience of working with children with Special Needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of the new SEND Code of Practice.
  • The ability to lead staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEN children.
  • Skilful in working with pupils with a range of different abilities and needs – SEND, LAC, Pupil Premium, EAL.
  • To work effectively with the Headteacher and SLT to achieve excellence.
  • The ability to support and overview the work of teaching assistants working with SEN children.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to work within a team.
  • Good management and organisational skills and experience of leading/managing other staff.
  • The necessary communication skills enabling liaison with a variety of external agencies.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team and Governors on the strategic development of SEN and Inclusion, including reviewing and formulating appropriate policies.
  • Provide training opportunities for Teaching Assistants and Teachers to learn about Inclusion, including whole-school Inset.
  • Disseminate good practice in Inclusion across the school.
  • Make applications as necessary to wider agencies based on the needs of the school.
  • Support pupil progress meetings and provision mapping across the school.
  • Liaise closely with parents.
  • Ensure all tracking and monitoring systems for SEN pupils are up to date and effective.
  • Liaise with the Educational Psychology service and other specialist and support agencies.
