Our picturesque, small, rural school has big ambitions for every child to fulfil their fullest potential.  While many of our children prosper under the National Curriculum, we recognise that for a few, this means adapting typical school life to suit their individual needs.   

We need someone like you, who can flexibly work alongside children in class but also come out of lessons to help children cope with their anxiety, learn to recognise their feelings and develop social skills.  It can sometimes be a bit challenging but you will already know that children need support to learn the right way to express themselves.  And you be the kind of person who enjoys the satisfaction of seeing a child begin to progress thanks to your patience and guidance.  

Transitioning a cohort up to our mixed Year 1 and 2 class, you will work alongside another Teaching Assistant to support the Teacher in delivering a dynamic, engaging curriculum including assisting with teaching reading, phonics and spelling to small groups.  You will also work on a 1:1 basis with children and cover some lunch and break duties.   

We recognise that this isn’t a job that will suit everyone.  You need to be pro-active, responsive, able to take direction and take on responsibility but in return, we can offer you an incredibly supportive, experienced team and the appropriate training courses and resources to flourish in your role. 

We are a twenty-minute drive from Hythe, Canterbury and Ashford, it’s all through stunning farm and woodland often scattered with birds of prey and deer – making it a very peaceful commute home after a busy day. 

In order to qualify for interview it would be beneficial to have recent experience of working in a primary  classroom with a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification. Experience of working with children with SEN is desirable. GSCE or equivalent in English and Mathematics is required.

Information about the school

Bodsham School is set in the heart of the beautiful Kentish countryside and is Federated with Saltwood Church of England Primary school outside Hythe. There are 78 pupils on roll arranged in four classes. Year R are taught separately and there are mixed classes from Year 1 to Year 6. The Christian ethos is central to the running of the school and there is strong support from our community of parents and carers.

Children receive a rich and varied education in our lovely grounds and we use the school minibus to help children experience trips to local sites of interest. Numbers of pupils on the special needs register and receiving free school meals are well below the national average.

All staff at Bodsham CEP benefit from our Federation with Saltwood CEP by sharing staff development events, having regular opportunities for collaboration in areas such as moderation and planning and accessing the support and resources a larger school can provide.
