We are looking for a part time (Mon-Fri) approx 28 hours per week Teaching Assistant to work in KS1 to support in-class learning and specialise in phonics support with pupils and administrative support for our phonics lead.

This role promises to be an exciting and rewarding position helping to shape and form the future delivery of phonics across the school and empowering children to develop the key skills to enable them to be life long readers.

We are searching for an enthusiastic person to join our friendly and supportive team. We need a TA with flexibility, experience in learning support, and the ability to contribute to our school’s community and vision.

The successful applicant will be sensitive to children’s varying needs, and be able to work under the guidance of the teaching team and Leadership Team.

Applicants should preferably be qualified to NVQ 2, and have some knowledge of the development and learning styles of children and special educational needs. Additionally, knowledge and understanding of phonics is obviously key to the role, but we would be prepared to consider canddates without this specialised knowledge with the understanding that training would be undertaken to support them in this role.

 The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Support an individual and groups of children in achieving the lesson objectives and outcomes.
  • Feed back to the class teacher, keeping records of progress and behaviour and marking pupils' work
  • Support the social, emotional, behavioural needs of pupils
  • Supervise lunchtime as a Midday Meals Supervisor on a daily basis
  • Communicate with parents
  • Prepare resources and some administrative work
  • Help with displaying children's work creatively.

Phonics role

  • Deliver small group 'keep up sessions' and some 'catch up sessions' with pupils.
  • Carry out assessments of children's phonic knowledge and input/ analyse results.
  • Provide administrative support to the phonics lead in terms of resourcing, training and creating and organising resources.
  • Maintain reading material appropriately and manage its organisation.
  • Monitor and read with children to ensure phonics material is accurate.

 The starting date will be 1st September 2022, or before for training if possible.
