We are looking for a well-qualified Specialist Teacher to cover a maternity leave and provide specialist support and advice to professionals working with children and young people with SEND in settings, schools. You will be facilitating specialist training and professional development opportunities for staff and giving advice to schools to support and improve the quality of teaching and learning for children with SEND.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic team working collaboratively with mainstream school staff and other professional agencies to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND within the Thanet area.

Do you have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A passion for inclusion and a desire to share this with others
  • Motivation to turn vision and strategy into exciting new initiatives
  • Experience of building capacity through training and coaching.
  • Excellent Knowledge and experience of SEND practice in mainstream or special school.
  • Working knowledge of best practice - current interventions and approaches
  • A specific area of specialism within the code of practice
  • A specialist qualification in SEND or a willingness to undertake one
  • An ability to work on your own initiative when needed and as part of a team
  • Resilience, skills and attitude to support schools dealing with challenging behaviours
  • Own transport (essential)

The Thanet Inclusion Support Service (TISS) provides advice and training to support settings and schools in improving the outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Our vision is to build Special Educational Needs and Disability capacity in Early Years settings and schools to ensure full access to learning for all children and young people with SEND.

Laleham Gap is a Communication and Interaction Special School. We have pupils aged from 4 to 18 years of age. Most of our pupils have a diagnosis of Autism. All pupils have an EHCP. Most pupils will achieve some GCSEs or equivalent at age 16. Laleham Gap is a new, high quality and well-resourced environment and the opportunity to work with an established, experienced and highly motivated team.
