Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Qualified Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (QTVI). As a QTVI you will provide assessment, teaching and support for children and young people with vision impairment from birth to 25 years of age. You will support children and young people in family homes, early years settings, mainstream schools, further education colleges and special schools in Bexley.

Your role will include identifying need and working effectively with parents/ carers, education staff and other professionals to meet those needs. You will advise on the use of specialist skills such as Braille and tactile discrimination. You will share your knowledge of specialist ICT, such as magnification software, and support the teaching team to incorporate technology into everyday practise for pupils with vision impairment.

The QTVI post sits within our multi-agency team, Bexley’s Early Intervention and Specialist Advice Service (EISAS), ensuring collaborative working with other specialist/ advisory teachers, specialist assistants and educational psychologists. The post is supported by a qualified habilitation officer who you will work in close partnership with.

The successful candidate will need to be a committed and highly motivated teacher who is flexible in their way of working in order to meet the wide range of needs our children and young people experience. We welcome applications from Qualified Teachers of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (QTVI).

We will also consider applications from suitably experienced Qualified Teachers who are willing to undertake the Mandatory Qualification course for teachers of children and young people with a vision impairment (MQVI). You will need to be an outstanding practitioner who has recent classroom teaching experience and a passion for supporting those with vision impairment. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed teacher to extend and develop their expertise in an advisory capacity. £44,829 - £50,245 Per annum (Teachers Main / Upper Pay Scale + SEN)
