But today, fewer young people are discovering the joy of getting lost in a great book. That’s why we’ve partnered with Bloomsbury Education to run our annual Big Summer Book Swap, a fun and meaningful way to help schools boost reading enjoyment and community spirit.According to the National Literacy Trust, only 34.6% of children and young people aged 8 to 18 said they enjoyed reading in 2024—the lowest level since records began. Even more concerning, just 20.5% reported reading daily. However, the benefits of reading are profound: children who enjoy reading are twice as likely to have above-average reading skills (34.2% vs. 15.7%) and report improved wellbeing, confidence, and empathy. To support schools ignite a love of reading in their pupils, Bloomsbury Education is kindly donating a bundle of books to one lucky participating school. This bundle will include some of their recently released and new titles for 2025. These books don’t just support the curriculum, they make reading inclusive and exciting. Children can see themselves in the stories they love, which helps spark confidence and joy. Some of their newest titles can be found below and may be amongst those included in the bundle donated to our Big Summer Book Swap campaign.
