4 Tips for a Successful Job Search Posted on 2 April 2025 by Ashleigh - Kent-Teach in Career As the resignation period approaches, we find that our site is inundated with postings and jobseekers who are looking for their next opportunity. With so much choice available, it can be overwhelming and almost impossible to know where to start. We want to support our jobseekers in being as successful as possible at finding the role they are looking for so here are our top tips on how to utilise the Kent-Teach website and your jobseeker account to ensure you are finding the jobs right for you!1) FiltersFor some, they have a set age group in mind, for others it is an location they would like to teach in, it may even be that you are interested in a fixed term contract as opposed to a permanent contract – or it could be a mix! Use the filters on the site to narrow down the pool of vacancies to the roles you are most interested in. This will help take the overwhelming number of vacancies down to a manageable amount for you to review.2) ResearchAfter finding a job you are interested in, try and find out more about your future employer. Not only will this help you with the application, it will give you a feel for the school and see if they still appeal to you outside of the job advert. Many schools now have a social media presence or even looking at their website and OFSTED report can give you a good idea of what environment you would be working in as well as identifying how your skillset can benefit them.TOP TIP: Use our School Directory to support you in finding the right details: Find a School in Kent3) Preferences and ActivationsWithin your Kent-Teach jobseeker account, there is a section called My Preferences. This is, in my opinion, the most useful but underutilised tool on the Kent-Teach website. This section allows you to set your job preferences so that you are receiving the most accurate suggestions for jobs. You can let the system know your preferred: contract type, locations, age group and even job titles you would be interested in.School Preferences allows you to select up to 5 schools you would be interested in working at to give you quick and easy access to their vacancies and, if you have elected to receive emails, receive email notifications when they post roles. Finally, the Activations section allows you to choose whether you would like to receive emails from the site. While I know this can be incredibly annoying if they are too frequent, if you are actively job searching a weekly email with bespoke, tailored recommendations based on your job preferences would be incredibly useful. TOP TIP: Tick the Activate my details box and you will appear in matched roles on the school’s account! This means they can get in touch with you directly if they feel you are a good fit for their role. It allows the jobs to come to you!4) VisitIf you have got to the stage where you are ready to make your application, I would always recommend visiting the school before sending it off. While you can get a good feel for a school online, nothing beats going in and seeing with your own eyes what the school is like. TOP TIP: A visit will also allow you to see what the commute will be like, what is in the local area and ask any questions you have prior to applying!Utilising these tips will support you in finding the role that is right for you!
