Storytelling and Book Week at Riverview Infant School Part 1...

It has been an exciting start to our Storytelling and Book Week at Riverview Infant School. This morning we gave a very warm welcome to our author @aguillain. He was greeted by a large wall display featuring characters and scenes from his picture book: ‘Molly’s Magic Wardrobe Search for the Fairy Star’. I’m sure his illustrator, Garry Parsons @ICanDrawDinos will be equally impressed with our efforts.

The children were captivated by a storytelling assembly with Adam and listened to some of George’s adventures. Mrs Booker thoroughly enjoyed herself, helping Adam to bring the story to life, through animating his puppet of George. We were delighted to be the first audience to preview his new Molly and the mermaid adventure.  Watch this space and look out for future publications from @EgmontUK.

Adam followed the assembly with some storytelling fun with Panda Class in Year One, sharing the story of ‘Baby Pie’. Then some time innovating the Molly stories with Koala class. Koalas taught some aliens about the importance of sharing as the characters space boarded and scootered around their planet!

This afternoon Whales class retold the story of Quackling, the Little Duck with the VERY Loud Quack! A feisty little duck who went to get his money back from an evil King! The enthusiastic quacks were echoing through the corridors and continue to fill the classroom as we speak!

Adam’s final class session was with Tiger class in Year Two, as they look at the storytelling matrix and will be inventing their own magical stories!  I look forward to hearing those.

Storytelling has taken hold today at Riverview Infants, magical wands have been created (sparkly carpets!), maps have been drawn, riddles written, new stories created and children immersed in the magic that is story.

Staff are now looking forward to a twilight training session with Adam as we look at drama, warm up games and inventing stories!  I look forward to sharing more about this tomorrow!

If you have enjoyed reading about Riverview's storytelling week, why not read our blog on 'The World's No. 1 Storyteller' no other than Roald Dahl!
