5 Free Fitness Classes in Kent

September 25th will mark National Fitness Day, a day dedicated to physical activity. People up and down the country will be joining the movement to celebrate health and fitness whilst tackling the barriers that prevent an active lifestyle.

The NHS advise that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life regardless of age. Studies show that people who regularly exercise have up to a 30% lower risk of early death. Despite thorough research and reminders from your local health evangelist, we are becoming more inactive than ever with our population being 20% less active than in the 1960s. Working in seated positions and the use of electronic devices has enabled us to complete everyday tasks without having to move an inch.

Public Health England have produced a guide highlighting physical inactivity being responsible for one in six UK deaths, which is equal to smoking. This shocking statistic should alone give enough impetus to get up and go!
If you are a Headteacher, try to create an active and healthier workplace culture where staff are encouraged to make small, positive changes to their everyday routine. Some employers offer their staff free fruit which is a fantastic way to reinforce a healthy diet and boost productivity in the workplace. This is a simple and cost-effective way to boost teacher wellbeing in schools. We’d love to hear your creative ideas, what do you think would contribute to a healthier and happier workplace? Please join our Kent teaching community forum on Facebook to share your comments.
