Recruitment Solutions for September 2018

If you are looking at alternative recruitment solutions for September, then international recruitment may be the solution you have been looking for. New options for 2018 are now available, for full or partial funding, to employ maths, science and MFL teachers from overseas to work in your school.

Maths and Science

Department for Education (DfE) funding is now available to recruit maths and science teachers to teach in UK schools. The UK Government are providing a £4,000 grant towards the recruitment costs of appointing an overseas maths or science teacher.

The funding is only applicable to teachers that have been granted qualified teacher status; which means that the international teachers would have been trained in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA or the EEA. Any associated immigration costs are not covered by this funding, this can only be put towards the cost of the recruitment fee.

Schools can access the funding via approved providers. An approved provider, Quantum Scholars, have teachers available for September 2018 start dates; you can contact the organisation on QS@quantum-scholars.co.uk to find out more information.

Modern Foreign Languages

Funding is also available to recruit qualified modern foreign language (MFL) teachers from Spain, through a scheme called Spain’s Visiting Teachers programme (SVTP). SVTP allows schools to recruit an MFL teacher for up to 3 years. Candidates will go through a rigorous interview process, led by senior leaders of English schools, and will have access to support and CPD opportunities to support them to adjust to working in the UK; the cost of these courses will be fully funded through the programme.

Teachers recruited through SVTP will need to be paid a salary in line with school teacher’s pay and conditions and will be paid for by the school. The DfE will fund interviews and assessments of teachers in Madrid, as well as reimbursement for DBS checks and acclimatisation support package for the teachers.

To find out more about the SVTP programme please visit the DfE Website or submit an expression of interest to svtp@randstad.co.uk.
