Speed Down Save Lives #RoadSafetyWeek Posted on 20 November 2017 by Rebecca Taylor - Kent-Teach Advisor in General We all live busy lives and there is often a temptation to speed up in the hope to save time but this can cause devastating outcomes and cost lives. A recent Brake survey revealed that 40% of UK drivers admitted they sometimes drive at 30mph in a 20mph zone.Road Safety Week is an annual event which aims to raise awareness about road safety to ultimately help prevent needless deaths and injuries year round. It is the UK’s biggest road safety event, coordinated by Brake, the road safety charity. Their previous campaign was titled ‘Speed Down Save Lives’ and Schools, organisations and communities were encouraged to take action on road safety by promoting life saving messages during the week and beyond. We can all participate in raising awareness about the dangers of fast driving by focusing on the following:• Speed causes deaths and serious injuries on our roads• Rural roads are not race tracks• 20mph is the only safe speed in heavily built-up areas used by pedestrians and cyclists• Going slow means stopping in time• Speed is scary and noisy; it stops communities being enjoyable places for children and families to walk, talk and play• Speed cameras work, they save lives• Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) is an important development that is likely to be fitted to all vehicles in the futureYou can register to be part of this year's Road Safety campaign where you’ll get a free electronic action pack. Let’s get involved and start sharing the above messages to reinforce safer driving to save lives. Thousands of schools, colleges, and organisations work together during the UK's biggest Road Safety event, raising awareness and helping save lives.
