Winnie the Pooh Day - 18th January

Alan Alexander Milne, the creator of Winnie the Pooh, was born on 18 January 1882 and his beloved character first appeared in his writing in 1924. The books are wonderfully enduring and Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga and Roo remain friends with children and adults around the world.

To celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day, we have chosen some of our favourite quotes to share with you.

“Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That's the problem.”

“I don’t feel very much like Pooh today," said Pooh. "There there," said Piglet. "I’ll bring you tea and honey until you do.”

“- What day is it?
- It's today, - squeaked Piglet.
- My favorite day, - said Pooh.

“Winnie the Pooh finds comfort in counting his pots of honey, and Rabbit finds comfort in knowing where his relations are – even if he doesn't need them at the moment.”

“Honey or condensed milk with your bread?” he was so excited that he said, “Both,” and then, so as not to seem greedy, he added, “but don’t bother about the bread, please.”

“Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”

“I'm not lost for I know where I am. But however, where I am may be lost.”

“What I like doing best is Nothing."
"How do you do Nothing," asked Pooh after he had wondered for a long time.
"Well, it's when people call out at you just as you're going off to do it, 'What are you going to do, Christopher Robin?' and you say, 'Oh, Nothing,' and then you go and do it. It means just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering."
"Oh!" said Pooh.”

“And how are you?" said Winnie-the-Pooh.
Eeyore shook his head from side to side.
"Not very how," he said. "I don't seem to have felt at all how for a long time."
"Dear, dear," said Pooh, "I'm sorry about that. Let's have a look at you.”

“How sweet to be a Cloud
Floating in the Blue!
It makes him very proud
To be a little cloud.”

And we can't leave out...

"You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think,"
