We decided to come up with an alternative list of things to do in Kent with not one castle or beach in sight! 1) Blue spaces - Medway River and a historical canalDid you know you can walk from Rochester to Tonbridge along the River Medway? You can join the walk from one of the many pretty villages and towns along the route. Take a picnic on a lovely summers day and walk through beautiful river scenery. The Royal Military Canal was created during the Napoleonic Wars and runs for 28 miles from running from Seabrook in Kent to Cliff End in East Sussex. It's a wonderful place to go walking, cycling, boating and wildlife spotting.2) Film locations, locations, locationsFrom Harry Potter, World War Z to Agatha Christie's Poirot, Kent has featured in many films and TV series. Follow the footsteps of the stars and visit some of the filming locations in Kent.3) Ramsgate Music HallThis small but cool music venue won NME's Britain's Best Small Venue in 2015. A definite must for music lovers for quality intimate gigs.4) MarshesRomney Marsh is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with many activities. The North Kent Marshes is a relatively unknown picturesque wild area of Kent which featured on BBC's Secret Britain programme. 5) Churches - bones and windowsThere are two churches with unique things to see. If you are interested in bones (because some people are) then you need to visit St Leonard's Church in Hythe. The crypt has the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient human bones and skulls in Britain. The All Saints' Church in Tudeley features the work of one of the 20th century's greatest artist, Marc Chagall. He designed the spectacular stained glass windows which are well worth a visit. 6) The Crab and Winkle LineThis was an old railway line linking Canterbury and Whitstable during the Victorian times so people could go to the seaside for their holidays. Unfortunately, it is no longer running but you can cycle or walk the historical route which takes you past the beautiful Clowes Woods, the Winding Pond and Invicta Way. 7) Theatres - The beautiful and the bijouMargate is spoilt for choice with two wonderful theatres. The stunning Theatre Royal Margate and the quirky Tom Thumb Theatre. Both feature a wide variety of events from comedy, plays to music.8) Bedgebury National Pinetum and ForestCycle, walk, run, ride or Go Ape in this magical forest. Surround yourself with nature and recharge your batteries.9) Dine with a starWith Kent's wonderful produce, we are no strangers to Michelin Stars. In 2016, three restaurants in Kent were awarded one Michelin Star, Thackeray's in Tunbridge Wells, The Sportsman in Whitstable and The West House in Biddenden. 10) Museums - Computers and Britain's first refugeesIt was a difficult choice between these two museums so we've listed them both. The Micro Museum in Ramsgate is Kent's only computer museum where admission allows unlimited games play (until kicking out time). The Huguenot Musem in Rochester is the only one of it's kind in Britain, where you can discover the history and the contribution of the Huguenots to the development of our country.
