This is a little convoluted so please bear with this!

Our Year 1 teacher is pregnant and because of the current guidelines she willl need to work from home as from Monday 14th June. We need to cover her for the remainder of this academic year. We then need to cover the Year 1 class for the following academic year.

However, we also have a vacancy arising elsewhere in the school, so whilst the appointment for Year 1 could be a maternity contract if that is what you prefer, for the right candidate it could also be a permanent contract. If it is a permanent contract, we would only wish to appoint an Early Years specialist. Our current Year R teacher, who is also the Head of the Key Stage, has taught Year R for a number of years and should move to Year 1 in the near future. If you are looking for a permanent appointment, you would have to be capable of teaching both Year R and 1, so that we could facilitate this move at some stage.

If you are only looking for a one year placement - and our teacher intends to take the entire year for her maternity leave - then an ability to move to Year R obviously isn't an issue.

So, the definite is that this immediate vacancy is for Year 1!  Most other aspects are flexible.

We appreciate that if you are currently employed, you won't be giving notice to join us in June. If that is the case, we will cover the class for the remainder of the academic year with our existing staff. However, if only working for June and July suits your situation, please contact us, as we would rather avoid having to redirect staff to cover the class as they are all currently engaged supporting the children's catch up programme.

The past two years have been a mess for NQTs trying to complete their training and join the profession. There may be some of you free to join us in June, and who would like to stay for the year, or even attain a permanent contract. We are going to be flexible in how we solve this issue. Our priority, as you would expect, is to recruit the strongest candidate or candidates possible, and to fit the solution around them.

We don't aspire to be top of SATs league tables or to have an Outstanding from Ofsted. But we do have the highest possible standards. We simply feel that education is about far more than these two measures. Our goal is to deliver an enriched, broad curriculum which develops our children's characters to the utmost. Please visit our website to learn about our ethos.

Our staff are very highly motivated. We complete every aspect of our work to a standard that we would wish for our own child. This is a really nurturing environment and if you joined us, we would support you to the hilt, particularly if you were an NQT, so that you too develop your skills to the utmost.

I encourage you to visit the school. I will hold tours for anyone wishing to visit, when I will happily talk through all aspects of the position. Please feel free to telephone or email for an informal conversation first if you prefer.

Information about the school

St Peter's is a small, delightful village primary school situated in the medieval village of Aylesford, housed in a Victorian building and the old vicarage, opposite the village church. We take pride in our caring and supportive attitude to everyone at the school and aim to ensure that the continued professional development of all staff is a priority.

We currently have 202 children in seven classes. Our PAN has recently been increased to 30. We expect to have a roll of 210 within the next 3 years.

Our ethos is that we aim to develop the child as a whole. We are not focused on SATs league tables or achieving a judgement of Outstanding from Ofsted. We want to deliver to our pupils the type of rounded education that we would wish for our own children. This means delivering the widest and richest curriculum possible. We aim to provide our children with an education which prepares them for the adult life ahead of them.

Children learn a modern foreign language from Year R and continue to do so throughout their years here. Every Thursday is a Creative Day, when we only teach art, music, MFL, computing and PE. Education is not about focusing your efforts on achieving the highest possible SATs grades; real education is about providing our children with the best possible teaching and the widest possible curriculum.

We want our children to be both supported, and to be shown that it is quite alright to take a chance and to fail. They must learn that being taken out of their comfort zone is exciting and not frightening. We are preparing our children for life, not a test. But if we do so professionally, with high quality teaching, then they will succeed in tests as best as they are able, as well as being fully prepared for the life which awaits them.

We have a small team of dedicated staff who love their school and work extremely hard to ensure that our children receive the best possible education. We support each other and appreciate each other's strengths. This is a friendly and supportive environment and we welcome like minded individuals who wish to join us.
