The Governors at Sissinghurst (Voluntary Aided) Church of England Primary School are seeking to appoint a forward-thinking individual to lead our excellent school into its next phase of development. Following the retirement of our Headteacher after 10 years’ service, the school is seeking a new leader who possesses a clear vision for what a truly outstanding, creative and holistic education can look like in 2020, along with exceptional leadership skills to bring our whole staff, volunteer and parent community on board for the journey.

Sissinghurst Primary is a vibrant and happy school from the front door to the playground. It currently serves 160 pupils with six class teachers, and mixed classes in KS2. The Governors are extremely proud of the school’s aspirational and nurturing culture which is heavily built on our Christian values of Wisdom, Endurance, Friendship and Koinonia (‘teamwork’). Our new Headteacher would be expected to champion and embody these values in all areas of school life.

There is a strong sense of momentum within the school and teaching staff at present, and the new Headteacher would need to work as a strong team player to build on this. The position offers an excellent opportunity for an outstanding professional with school leadership experience to take a step up into a Headship role for the first time, or for an existing school leader to take on a new challenge. Our governors are knowledgeable, experienced and committed to supporting our new Headteacher in fulfilling the school’s vision. The new leader will be supported by a highly capable administrative team.

As a Voluntary Aided Church of England school, our Christian ethos underpins our vision, values, policies and approach to learning. The school has a strong relationship with Trinity Church in Sissinghurst and we are seeking an individual who can demonstrate a sincere understanding of the Christian faith and promote the holistic development of our pupils within this context. However, personal and regular church attendance is not a requirement.

In addition the Governors are particularly looking to appoint a leader who:

  • demonstrates an internal drive and clarity of vision for what an outstanding education can and should look like, beyond Ofsted grade descriptors and fluctuations in national policy.
  • communicates clearly, resolves conflict effectively and is emotionally resilient under pressure.
  • can demonstrate strategic thinking about how to transform vision into practical action.
  • has a proven track record of making a positive and tangible impact on pupils’ learning in a leadership role.
  • is forward-thinking and has considered how technology and other innovations may impact on the education sector in the next decade, being willing to take risks and seize opportunities with wisdom.
