Deputy Headteacher

We are looking for an inspiring and imaginative leader to take over and continue to develop the role of Deputy Headteacher within our unique, small, independent special school.

We require someone who is willing to work hard to ensure our students are provided with the best possible chance of success in a fast changing world. Outstanding communication skills with students and staff will ensure relationships are at the heart of positive change for all members of the school.

Experience of working and leading staff in a special school is preferable, however, enthusiasm, initiative and inspiration are the most important attributes.

We are ideally looking for a September start, however, we would be willing to wait until later in the academic year for the right candidate.

Please contact the school to arrange a visit.

Information about the school

Learning Opportunities is a small independent specialist school for students with a wide range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH), autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and moderate learning difficulties. We are registered to provide education for 36 students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP), aged 10 to 19 years of age (Key Stages 2,3,4 & 5). All students have, for a variety of reasons, found it difficult to achieve their full potential in other settings. Often their schooling will have been chaotic and fragmented, resulting in them falling behind their peers academically, and as a result they relish the chance to succeed in our smaller and more personal setting.

At Learning Opportunities we pride ourselves in managing the wide ranging social, emotional, behavioural and educational needs of all our students, where they are supported within a consistent, caring and supportive environment. Our dedicated staff team, who have a range of expertise, are passionate about providing the best possible opportunities and outcomes for all of our students. Highly personalised programmes support students to develop the self-confidence to deal with the significant life changes and challenges they may encounter, and to become positive members of the school and wider community.

A key feature of what we do is teaching our students to take responsibility for their behaviour and its consequences. We work in partnership with parents, carers and other agencies to help students make positive choices and changes, which will serve them better in their future life. Many of our visitors comment on the positive ethos of the school – calm, focused and happy, where appropriate and positive relationships between staff and students are clearly evident.

Following a successful Ofsted inspection in October 2022 we are now looking for a member of staff to join the team who can continue the great work we already do and contribute to making our provision even better in the future.
