It converted to Academy Status in March 2011 and is now funded directly by the Department of Education.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced School Business Manager to work as part of our leadership team to run the operational and financial elements of the School.  You will need to be highly organised, work well as part of a team and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a ‘can do’ attitude.

The role includes an extensive range of responsibilities that will require a broad set of skills, relevant qualifications, enthusiasm and resilience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Certificate of School Business Management (Level 4 or above) or a business/finance/accounting qualification with a willingness to complete the School Business Management accreditation;
  • Sound experience of financial management and budgetary control in schools (ideally Academies) or equivalent
  • Leadership and management experience of areas including finance, HR, payroll and health and safety;
  • Experience of premises, facilities and project management;
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ability to secure funding through researching and applying for resources
  • A genuine desire to involve yourself fully in the life of our school and to work as part of our team.

We can offer you:

  • A personalised approach to continuing professional development
  • Welcoming and hardworking colleagues, who work collaboratively to achieve the best for the school
  • Performance related salary
  • Local Government pension scheme

Additional requirements include outstanding interpersonal skills, time management and the ability to use the school data and financial management systems effectively. Personnel experience is also beneficial, as the School Business Manager will conduct staff performance management/appraisal reviews and maintain all aspects of HR in the school.

Amherst School is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of our children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Offers of employment are subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and other employment checks. Information about the school

Amherst School is a three-form entry junior school in Sevenoaks. The majority of our children transfer from Riverhead Infants School.

Our Ofsted inspection in May 2022 reported that:

Amherst School is a warm and welcoming community where leaders do whatever it takes to help every child flourish. Pupils love their time at school, not least because of the enormous range of opportunities on offer.

Pupils describe the school as a special place to be. This environment helps pupils to become remarkably confident and self-assured. Their exceptional behaviour and attitudes reflect the school’s values of trust, kindness, determination, politeness, fairness and cooperation.

Leaders have planned a broad and varied curriculum. Pupils develop a love of learning due to engaging experiences within and beyond the school.

Leaders maximise their impact through the way they inspire, motivate and develop others.

Without exception, staff say that the headteacher is considerate of their workload and well-being.

Governors are part of the school’s open and honest culture. They provide robust challenge to the leaders, which leaders listen to and act upon. Governors know the school well and are right to have confidence in its leadership.

Should a suitable candidate apply, we reserve the right to close the advertisement at an earlier date. Early applications are welcome.
