Enthusiastic, patient, understanding, caring, resilient, confident, adaptable – is this you?

Learning Opportunities is a small independent special school catering for students with wide ranging needs. We follow a full range of curriculum subjects alongside numerous opportunities for learning outside the classroom, including forest school.

We are seeking to appoint a talented English teacher who is passionate about their subject and securing the best outcomes for even the most challenging students.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate successful engagement of students in a creative and effective way from Entry Level up to GCSE. You will have experience of helping students make significant progress with their academic as well as social and emotional learning on a daily basis. There will also be a requirement to teach an additional subject and be fully involved in activities and educational visits.

We would welcome applications from an experienced teacher or an NQT looking to start their career in a special education environment. If you have endless energy and are seeking a new challenge where no two days are the same, please look at our website or contact the school for further information or to arrange a visit.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged. Please contact Simon Graydon to arrange an informal visit or for more information.

Information about the school

Learning Opportunities is a small independent specialist school for students with a wide range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH), autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and moderate learning difficulties. We are registered to provide education for 36 students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP), aged 10 to 19 years of age (Key Stages 2,3,4 & 5). All students have, for a variety of reasons, found it difficult to achieve their full potential in other settings. Often their schooling will have been chaotic and fragmented, resulting in them falling behind their peers academically, and as a result they relish the chance to succeed in our smaller and more personal setting.

At Learning Opportunities we pride ourselves in managing the wide ranging social, emotional, behavioural and educational needs of all our students, where they are supported within a consistent, caring and supportive environment. Our dedicated staff team, who have a range of expertise, are passionate about providing the best possible opportunities and outcomes for all of our students. Highly personalised programmes support students to develop the self-confidence to deal with the significant life changes and challenges they may encounter, and to become positive members of the school and wider community.

A key feature of what we do is teaching our students to take responsibility for their behaviour and its consequences. We work in partnership with parents, carers and other agencies to help students make positive choices and changes, which will serve them better in their future life. Many of our visitors comment on the positive ethos of the school – calm, focused and happy, where appropriate and positive relationships between staff and students are clearly evident.

Following a successful Ofsted inspection in October 2022 we are now looking for a member of staff to join the team who can continue the great work we already do and contribute to making our provision even better in the future.
