Clerk to the Governing Body

The Governing Body at Blean Primary School are seeking to appoint a motivated and efficient Clerk.

The Clerk will be accountable to the Governing Body and will work closely alongside the Chair of Governors, Head Teacher, Teaching School Director, and Business Manager.

The Clerk will be required to provide supportive and comprehensive clerking for example by:

  • Supporting the meetings of the Full Governing Body and our three committees, and a small number of other meetings. This will include for example negotiating agendas with the chairs and circulating, minute taking and providing timely records of minutes
  • Providing up to date advice and support on governance where possible, or accessing and circulating this after meetings
  • Maintaining registers of attendance and records as needed

The Clerk must be highly organised with a keen eye for detail, be informed about governance and be committed to their further training as a clerk. The Full Governing Body meetings take place at Blean School and usually begin at 6.30pm for two hours. There are usually four full governing body meetings a year. Committee meetings tend to be held during the day for two hours. Each of the three committees usually meets about 3 times a year. The clerking work is part time, paid monthly based on the duties undertaken and is usually term time only.

References will be requested.

Previous clerking experience is desirable but not essential, and an inexperienced applicant would be expected to undertake initial training.

Our school

We are a large primary school in Canterbury, graded outstanding, and have recently become a teaching school. We have a richly diverse community and a friendly and caring environment where children are helped to grow up as considerate, sensible young people. As well as being extremely proud of our academic successes we nurture good manners, mutual respect, tolerance, teamwork and, of course, a sense of humour.

We are extremely fortunate to have such a committed staff team who provide excellent, stimulating learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. The wider curriculum is very important to us in order that all children gain and develop skills across the curriculum and beyond. Additionally, we offer a Breakfast Club and an After School Club providing good care, both before and at the end of the school day.
