We have an exciting clerking opportunity at Fordcombe Primary School, part of the Tenax Schools Trust.

We are seeking to appoint a capable and well-organised administrator to provide clerking support to our Local Governing Body across the Trust’s growing portfolio. This is a part-time position paid monthly on the basis of the hours of work undertaken. The demands of the job will be variable from month to month. The work is term-time only.

Reporting to the Clerk to the Trustees, and working closely with the school’s Headteacher and Chair of Local Governing Body, the successful candidate will play a vital role in meeting the administrative and procedural requirements of boards and enabling efficient and effective discussion and decision making.

The Tenax School Trust in a multi-academy trust, and each school within the Trust has a Local Governing Body (LGB) with delegated responsibilities.  Each LGB must appoint a clerk to ensure its efficient functioning.

At Fordcombe, board meetings tend to be held six times a year in the evening and last approx. 2 hours - dates are set well in advance. There may be further meetings held during the year, such as extra-ordinary LGB meetings or meetings of Committee Panels.  In addition to preparing for, and attending the Board meetings, administrative duties such as photocopying and filing will be carried out during school hours. Whilst some home working is possible (writing up minutes, etc.) other duties are generally carried out at the school address. The hours for this role will vary per month dependent on whether there has been a meeting to attend.  The approximate number of working hours is 12 per board meeting plus 1-2 hours administration per week.  In general, no work will be required during school holidays.

You will be a dedicated person of integrity, extremely well organised, flexible and be able to maintain confidentiality. Strong administration and organisation skills are essential, as is a keen eye for detail, ability to work to deadlines, and excellent written and oral communication skills. A commitment to the aims and ethos of Tenax is important.  Previous experience of governance may be advantageous although training will be provided on the specific duties and functions of a clerk for the Tenax Schools Trust.

Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the post before applying, please do not hesitate to contact Christopher Blackburn – Headteacher, by telephone: 01892 740224 or by email to headteacher@fordcombe.kent.sch.uk.

Applications should be submitted online using the Kent Teach application. No CVs will be accepted.

Further details are included in the job description.

Information about the school

We are a small, half-form entry primary school situated in the beautiful Kent countryside, just outside Tunbridge Wells. The school hall is in the Victorian part of the building and most of the classrooms are in a newer purpose built extension. We have a great library space as we believe all children should have the opportunity to read widely and be reading for pleasure. We are small school team that believes we should be doing ‘big school things’. Beyond the core curriculum, our current focus is music, French, PE and developing teacher expertise in computing. The focus has changed and evolved as each new member of staff has joined us bringing with them different passions and skills. We share our high academic expectations with all our staff, parents and young people: we work hard as a group so that all pupils achieve well. More than this, we believe a primary school should be a place where children start to learn who they are, start to learn who they want to be and start to learn how they are going to live their lives.
