We have an opportunity for an organised, friendly and reliable Receptionist to join our Office Manager in our busy school office.  The post would be 28 hours per week worked over four days during term-time only, with the post holder being the first point of contact for calls, emails and visitors to the school.

You will need:

  • IT skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Literacy skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • To be able to show initiative
  • To be highly confidential with all matters
  • To have a professional attitude
  • To be well organised

We wish to appoint someone who has:

  • Experience of working within an office environment, ideally a school setting.
  • A friendly, flexible and professional approach, particularly when multi-tasking under pressure.
  • A good working knowledge of office management systems such as Microsoft Word/Excel and ideally a school MIS such as Arbor.
  • The ability to prioritise workload to ensure office systems operate efficiently for the smooth running of the school.

Information about the school

In 2024, Ofsted graded St John's as a good school in all areas.

The school, based in the heart of Canterbury, is a larger than average primary school, with two classes in each of Years 1 to 6. The school has provision for Early Years Foundation Stage children, with a nursery and two reception classes. In addition to our teaching team we have a supportive pastoral team including an Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Personal Development, SENDCos, an EAL Specialist and a Family Liaison Officer. The school is a Church of England voluntary controlled school.
