Site Assistant

Nexus School is seeking a committed Site Assistant to join our friendly and hardworking Site Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting our outstanding specialist school, ensuring our buildings and grounds remain safe, secure and well maintained for our pupils, staff and visitors.

Nexus is an ambitious and expanding special school for children and young people aged 2–19 with profound, severe and complex learning needs, many of whom have a diagnosis of autism. Our purpose-built facilities include specialist learning environments, a hydrotherapy pool and extensive outdoor areas, all of which require high standards of care and maintenance.

The Role

Working alongside our Site Manager, you will undertake a wide range of duties including:

  • Carrying out general repairs, maintenance and decorating.
  • Supporting the security of the school, including opening and locking up.
  • Maintaining high standards across the school buildings and grounds.
  • Completing routine health and safety checks and compliance monitoring.
  • Assisting with furniture moves and event set-ups.
  • Supporting contractors working on site.
  • Driving school minibuses when required.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of our hydrotherapy pool and specialist facilities.
  • Participating in the emergency call-out rota with the Site Manager.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has practical DIY and maintenance skills across a range of trades.
  • Understands the importance of health and safety.
  • Is organised, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enjoys working as part of a supportive team.
  • Holds a full, clean driving licence and is willing to drive school minibuses.
  • Is flexible and willing to undertake relevant training.

Working Hours

37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The normal working pattern is 10.00am – 6.00pm, although some flexibility is available. Occasional additional hours may be required, together with participation in the 24-hour emergency call-out rota.
