We are seeking to appoint a committed and experienced KS2 class teacher with possible leadership opportunities. The successful candidate will be a consistently good practitioner, passionate about children's learning, adaptable and dedicated to raising pupils' attainment. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work within a friendly and supportive team, which strongly believes that pupils should be nurtured in order for them to reach their full potential. We have undergone significant building work this year and have now refurnished classrooms and a stunning new library. If you are looking for a challenge and keen to utilise your skills and experiences to drive forward school improvements, then we are the right school for you! Although advertised to commence April 2015, there is a possibility that this post could commence  immediately if a suitable applicant is appointed. We welcome and encourage informal visits to the school. Please contact our school office to make an appointment with the Head Teacher. All appointments are subject to the relevant recruitment checks.

Information about the school

In 2024, Ofsted graded St John's as a good school in all areas.

The school, based in the heart of Canterbury, is a larger than average primary school, with two classes in each of Years 1 to 6. The school has provision for Early Years Foundation Stage children, with a nursery and two reception classes. In addition to our teaching team, we have a supportive pastoral team including a Head of Inclusion and Welfare, Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Personal Development, SENDCo, EAL Specialist and a FLO. The school is a Church of England voluntary controlled school.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and the school reserves the right to carry out online checks on shortlisted candidates as per KCSIE guidelines. Our Child Protection Policy can be found in the Policies section of our website: https://www.stjohns-canterbury.kent.sch.uk/page/?title=Policies&pid=30.

Please note that unfortunately we are not in a position to contact unsuccessful applicants.
