Teacher of Geography 0.4FTE

Are you a passionate and enthusiastic Geographer looking to develop your career within a successful and welcoming school in the Kent countryside?

We are a large department with excellent uptake at GCSE and A-Level, being currently the most popular option at GCSE. You would be required to teach at both KS3 and KS4; the ability to teach A level would be an advantage but is not essential.  We welcome applications from ECT’s to experienced teachers.

With our ethos of ‘Learning, Respect and Belonging’, we have high aspirations for everyone and expect everyone to contribute positively to the school by working hard and participating in school activities. We organised a trip to Italy during the last academic year and are currently planning trips to both the Lake District and Iceland which we would love you to be a part of.

You will enjoy a unique working environment in the beautiful town of Tenterden in the heart of the Weald of Kent.  We invest in our staff and you will be given a full induction programme and the support you require to progress wherever you are in your career.  We seek to develop our staff through a professional growth model and treat everyone as an individual; we value personal strengths and qualities.  Our school is set in a 55 acre site midway between London and the Channel Ports and is easily commutable via major roads and motorways.  We also have available discounts and offers with Kent Rewards, RAC and enhanced pension contributions, all teaching staff are provided with an IT device and there is a nursery based on the school site which offers discounts to Homewood Staff.

We are not accepting applications from employment agencies for this position but would be delighted to receive a direct application from you.

For any queries, please contact Megan Wanstall, Human Resources 01580 764222 Ext 2351 or email vacancies@tenterden-schools-trust.com.

Closing date: An early application is encouraged as we review applications as we receive them.

Information about the school

Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre is a mixed 11 – 18 wide ability school with Academy status with 2000 students including 350 in the Sixth Form. We are part of Tenterden Schools’ Trust working in collaboration with local primary schools and nurseries serving the Wealden town of Tenterden and the surrounding villages. The school is situated on the edge of Tenterden and enjoys a large semi-rural site overlooking open countryside. Home Farm Nursery is based in the grounds of Homewood School.

Homewood has excellent facilities for all its students and our specialisms in Performing Arts, Applied Learning and the Rural Dimension underpin our approaches to learning which are designed to raise achievement across the whole student body. We aim to maintain and develop the cultural aspirations of the school community in line with our priorities of “belonging” and “respect” and offer a broad range of curriculum opportunities in all subject areas. This also extends into the local community through partnerships across primary, secondary and higher education sectors as well as non-educational community partners.

Homewood provides a secure and caring learning environment in which all students can flourish and succeed. It is a school renowned for its support for students’ wellbeing. Heads of Community provide academic and pastoral leadership for the students in their Community, supported by dedicated form tutors, a Family Liaison Officer and Assistant Head of Community. A range of other staff including counsellors and a qualified nurse help and support the students through their time at Homewood. Consideration and respect for each other is central to our work and we are justly proud of our students’ achievements.

I hope you will be inspired to submit an application to join us. If you are successful, you can be assured of a very warm welcome and a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the young people of this part of Kent.
