Advert

Like most schools, we are now admitting an increasing number of children with a higher level of SEN need. Whilst we have a very dedicated team of TAs, we need to add to their numbers by recruiting additional SEN TAs who have the experience, compassion and desire to work supporting individual children who require specific, higher level support.

At present, we have a small number of children with autism, ADHD and Downs Syndrome. At times, some of their behaviour can be challenging.

We have 4 specilaist SEN TAs already employed at the school, three are part time and one full time. They have experience in supporting children with a higher level of need. However, one part time TA is leaving us at the end of term 4. We need to recruit to replace her. Ideally we would like to recruit a full time replacement. Doing so would effectively increase the size of this team. This would allow us to timetable our SEN TAs to work with 2-3 different children over the course of the working week. This avoids the issues which arise when just one adult supports just one child over an extended period. You would work in class, supporting children to access a differentiated version of the curriculum, but also work outside the classroom, delivering specialist intervention programmes as required.

However, no school in England is less suitable to supporting children with specialist need than ours! We have two, small Victorian buildings, which sit on an inaccesible site, atop a steep hill. We have no space for therapy rooms and only a few small rooms which we use for every manner of intervention.

You would begin work at 8.15am, 15 minutes before the children come into school. This provides a little time for you to liaise with the class teacher about the day ahead. You have a 15 minute morning break and 1/2 hour for lunch, but we ask TAs to work 1/2 hour each lunch as MMS. You would finish at 3pm, as school ends.

Generally TA pay is on Kent Range 3 and working 8.15-3pm means that you would be paid a pro rata total of £14,596.14. There is a pay increase pending.

Please contact me to discuss the role informally. We can discuss the position and I will happily show you around the school if you wish to visit prior to applying.

St Peter’s Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and expects all staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to safer recruitment procedures. Enhanced DBS checks are required for this post.

Information about the school

St Peter's is a small, delightful village primary school situated in the medieval village of Aylesford, housed in a Victorian building and the old vicarage, opposite the village church. We take pride in our caring and supportive attitude to everyone at the school and aim to ensure that the continued professional development of all staff is a priority.

We currently have 202 children in seven classes. Our PAN has recently been increased to 30. We expect to have a roll of 210 within the next 3 years.

Our ethos is that we aim to develop the child as a whole. We are not focused on SATs league tables or achieving a judgement of Outstanding from Ofsted. We want to deliver to our pupils the type of rounded education that we would wish for our own children. This means delivering the widest and richest curriculum possible. We aim to provide our children with an education which prepares them for the adult life ahead of them.

Children learn a modern foreign language from Year R and continue to do so throughout their years here. Every Thursday is a Creative Day, when we only teach art, music, MFL, computing and PE. Education is not about focusing your efforts on achieving the highest possible SATs grades; real education is about providing our children with the best possible teaching and the widest possible curriculum.

We want our children to be both supported, and to be shown that it is quite alright to take a chance and to fail. They must learn that being taken out of their comfort zone is exciting and not frightening. We are preparing our children for life, not a test. But if we do so professionally, with high quality teaching, then they will succeed in tests as best as they are able, as well as being fully prepared for the life which awaits them.

We have a small team of dedicated staff who love their school and work extremely hard to ensure that our children receive the best possible education. We support each other and appreciate each other's strengths. This is a friendly and supportive environment and we welcome like minded individuals who wish to join us.
