This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic Teacher of Science (KS3-5). An engaging and committed teacher required for a Specialist Independent School with a strong focus on personalised learning and holistic development.  

With a brand new Science Lab and Prep Room developed in Autumn 2023 alongside the school's new Life Skills Centre, investment in facilities and resources have been made alongside developing an ethos and vision to support neurodiverse learners and work towards preparing them for adulthood.

Brown’s is a specialist independent day school and is situated in Chelsfield in the Kent countryside. The school is registered with the DfE to provide up to 99 places for boys and girls, aged from 9 to 18 years, from a wide range of neighbouring local authorities. Brown’s School helps young people whose education has been adversely affected by Specific Learning Difficulties, namely dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, or speech and language difficulties; Autistic Spectrum Disorder; Auditory Processing Disorder; and ADD/ADHD.

Our students have unique learning profiles which requires effective learning and teaching to be tailored to their individual needs. We aim to empower students to achieve by:  Providing small class sizes to ensure a high level of classroom support from trained teachers, learning support assistants, and therapists.  Providing on-site Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Clinical Psychology on an assessed need basis.  Ensuring staff receive appropriate training and support to meet the needs of all students.  Having high expectations and aspirations of all students.  Monitoring progress through assessment, tracking, and target setting.  Implementing a consistent behaviour management system.  Encouraging strong home-school relationships through continual communication such as newsletters, parents’ evenings, and workshops.  Having a diverse and engaging curriculum with natural progressions to formal qualifications in Key Stage 4&5 and preparing our young people for adulthood.  To develop Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural awareness through the curriculum, with particular emphasis from PSHE, Life & Social Skills, and the Healthy Living Enrichment Programme.

Staff work towards our school ethos of ‘Empowering Tomorrow’s People’ and encourage the students to share this as a common goal.
